The Music Appreciation Group
meets for two hours at 10.30 on the 3rd
Monday of each month at my home. We have room for new members and, if there is
sufficient interest, we could start a second group on the afternoon of the same
We focus on classical music
but I am always happy to widen the scope to cover member’s varying
interests. Usually a different subject is discussed each month
but the more complex topics may be considered over two consecutive
months. The subjects are usually chosen by me but group members
suggestions are always welcome. Forthcoming topics include:- “Waltzes and other types of
dance forming part of a much larger musical work”, “ An overview of the
music of Richard Strauss”, and “A brief survey of organ music from J.S. Bach to
the mid 20th century”.
We usually spend up to 70%
of a meeting listening to music which is then followed by lively, informal
discussion and debate. We keep it as inclusive and informal as possible so
that everyone attending can gain something from each session, no matter what musical level they are
presently at. This group is aimed at music lovers and casual music fans
of all abilities!
