Play Reading GroupBACK TO: WHAT WE DO
Play Reading Group
Our Group lists 12 members with an average attendance of about 8 , so we can comfortably meet in a room in a member's home at various venues. Shirley Molloy and I co-lead the Group and , as our title implies , we read Plays !
What usually happens is that I will introduce the play saying something about the plot and the author . We then read through the script taking it in turns to be a particular character , irrespective of gender ! We meet on the second Monday of the Month , from 10 am until about 12 noon. Often for a 3 act play this will mean we will need to have two meetings . Discussion takes place after that and usually between scenes , often accompanied by much laughter!
A set of play copies are borrowed from Stockport Library and we try to vary the selection. A serious drama followed by a comedy for example and we usually find ourselves immersed in topics of lively interest.
Just to give you a flavour of the plays covered , they have differed widely from Shakespere to Agatha Christie via Tom Stoppard , JB Priestley , Terence Rattigan , Noel Coward , and many others . From 'The Cocktail Party' to ' The Happiest Days of your Life ' ,with Pantomimes , Dickens' 'Christmas Carol ' and 'Plays for Coarse Actors' thrown in !
We may have a vacnacy soon but it would be quite easy for another Group to be set up if there was enough interest. Over to you !
